Typically, the BBC report on this gave its length in the standard metric, Bus Length. I was actually surprised they didn't give its length as some fraction of a Football Pitch.
Not quite as bad as when they gave the length of that pirated oil tanker as "almost the size of a US aircraft carrier", as if that is a benchmark with which most viewers should be familiar.

Don't be daft, they'd surely use the correct international standard measure of volume: the Olympic swimming pool.
