The Inescapable Maths Of Durham

Ridiculously fucking hilly
+ Ridiculously fucking icy
+ Ridiculously crappy car
+ Drivers unable to realise that if the car in front can't move forward because of ice, following him into the same road so he can't even reverse is really fucking stupid
= Taking 45 fucking minutes over a 20 fucking minute trip.

I may add this to my thesis. Or possibly just kill everyone in the world.

I can imagine. It was pretty poor driving conditions over here so I imagine it was Suckville Central up in Durham. I take it you survived the trip and are now back home and hard at work on that whole write up thing?

Arrived home last night. Will start the write-up tomorrow, today is about catching up on paperwork, and job-hunting.

Would your officials even let me have somewhere to live, or would I have to dwell under the school as Jersey's official Maths Troll?

Jersey is reasonably accommodating towards teachers when it comes to housing. As any appointed teacher gets to be a “J” Cat (which is basically an essential worker type thing as we tend to be short on teachers). This grants you access to the blessed middle ground of housing in Jersey (the three areas being, Unqualified, J Cat and Qualified), which gives a reasonable range of available accommodation. You can of course gain access to the Qualified market as well simply by living with someone who has Qualies or of course marry someone who does…

I have to admit to being intrigued by the idea of becoming Dr S Squid: J Cat.

I personally liked the idea of you dwelling under one of our schools as Jersey's official Maths Troll. I could tell tails of you to frighten the Arts Students, and stories would be exchanged around the camp fire on all those maths related excursions. Maybe you could be Dr S. Squid: J Cat by day, Maths Troll by night… I mean Trolls only come out at night right?
