Quz 8

Update:  Only two questions remain unanswered.  Anyone who knows the answers to question 5 in either rounds 2 or 6; this is your chance!

This month’s quz is now available for your perusal.  I finally pitched this one at the right level for our local, but it’s anybody’s guess as to how well that will translate to you people.  The top three scores last night were 34, 31 and 29.  I’ve added the bonus round in again because it involves horror and is therefore awesome.  The highest mark for that round was 4, so there’s room for improvement if you know your Draculas.

Right.  Off you go.

(And yes, I stole a question idea off of Tomsk’s blog.  That should guarantee at least correct answer, I would hope).

That sends us on our way, with twelve right on the main quiz, and two in the bonus round.

I should also mention that you're the only person to get question 4 right in the second round. I was surprised no-one else had heard of him...

I only heard about him because of DC. There's superhero named Steel who was one of the heroes that replaced Superman when he was dead. Steel is partly based on the folklore (being an african-american who's handy with the hammer). Then in New Frontier a forerunner for Steel is going around fighting members of the KKK to the tunes of the Legend Of John Henry's Hammer (check out the Johnny Cash version of it which is particularly awesome).
Steel was also made into a movie starring Shaquille O'Neal.

I'd heard of Steel, but I'd never made the connection. Interesting.

To be honest, I mainly know about him because of the Bill and Ted cartoon. Though he is of course name-checked in the Sarah Connor Chronicles as well.

Oh and now I've seen the answer - I have indeed heard of John Henry - from the Steel connection. Didn't get the question though.

You've also increased the total bonus score to 3, so well done there.

So far, then, team Musings wins the quiz, but is still lagging behind in the bonus round.

25 for JJ, and an almighty 39 points for team Musings. You people rock!

Also, JJ gets you to 4 out of 5 in the bonus round, drawing you level with the previous best. We're now down to the men's hammer record, and the man who played Van Hesling opposite Bela Lugosi.

Kudos, my friends. Kudos.
