SpaceSquids Official 500th Post Sexy Fun-Time Time

At long last, I have dragged myself across the 500 post line. An awful lot has happened in my life since I started this blog back in March 2008. I've earned a doctorate, published papers, lost both Dr P and Josh, actually re-entered the world of work (sort of), and so on and so on.

But those particular events are only of interest to me, not my dear readers, so instead of detailing the myriad ways my life has changed, I thought this might be an opportune to cast our minds back over the last 16 months.
  1. The first ever post. I think it's reasonably safe to say my blogging style has become more distinctive over the time I've been doing this (distinctive, of course, not necessarily being equivalent to competent), and it feels odd reading this now. Still, it has nostalgia value, especially since not all the information offered is still strictly true.
  2. The post with the (second) most comments ever (28 posts, 22 of which aren't mine). I decided to cast aside the actual post with the most comments because it was one of those silly "Guess the tune" things I put up occasionally, and at which you people invariably suck at. This one actually has a point, and makes me long for the days when Galactica was still a journey, and not a destination (specifically, a destination that turned out to be full of shit). The follow-up piece might be worth a look too.
  3. My favourite link. Over this blog's history I've found or been led to some awesome stuff (the Aliens flash game, the world's most morose sea anemone, the bitch-slapping of Rob Liefeld I still read once a month), but my all time favourite remains the Gardener/da Costa cover of this Woody Guthrie song. I guess I found it at exactly the right time, sitting by the window of my Ljubljana flat and staring out into the city, missing home. Plus, it's just a kick-ass song. Fact.
  4. My greatest hits. A selection of some of the posts of which I am most proud:
Right. That's enough wallowing in the past. See you all at post 1000, I hope.

May I be the first to offer you my congratulations at this milestone! Just today I've been considering quite strongly starting one of my own (probably to filled with reviews of various bits of fiction), although I have my doubts that if it happens it'll be anywhere near as multi-faceted as your own.

Jack of all trades, baby.

Let me know if you do start one, though. It would be nice to turn the tab... to support your nascent venture.

I still think Gaeta had it coming

You're gonna want to clear out of here before Chemie sees that :)

Well of course Gaeta was obliged to die, how else would it be tragic?

However, none of those hypocritical, murdering, self absorbed, special-special, bullying, amoral, overly forgiven bastards that made up the rest of the main cast deserved to get to Earth and live if poor Gaeta had to die. The Kimmy intergalactic scales of righteousness forbids it.

*sniffs and mutters to self about speaking ill of the abused, idealistic, ethically correct dead*

I agree with you on most points there Kimmy. On the last one though, abused and idealistic, certainly; but ethically correct? I don't really think that fits him all along the line...

Standing up to a hypocritical dictator, who wants to undermine the security of the fleet in an undemocratic alliance with the enemy isn't ethically correct? Because mutiny is just fine if your surname is Adama, Agathon, Dualla or Roslin.

The perjury, I admit was a little bit naughty. But Gaeta has floofy hair and an excellent eye-roll. I shall forgive him that little indiscretion.

See? See how I make Squid's 500th post all about Gaeta. Mwahahahaha!

Spoilers, you frakking gits.

Congrats on making the half-century, Squid.

You had to bring up Gaeta again, didn't you! She was only just showing signs of getting over it...

Sorry, Pause, that's my fault. I kept the post spoiler free but should have warned people about the comments section.

It's mainly thanks to Chemie that it was that post which won "most comments" in the first place...

Obviously I can't read this page any more Squid, just in case there are any more spoilers abound. But if I could then I'd point out it's not your fault, just one of those things.

Also, I'd congratulate you on your tenth half-century, or something. Or claim to be counting in base 10 sqrt(10), perhaps.

That was basically my point; some things he did can certainly be seen as ethically correct, and indeed I do agree with many of his actions; but his hands aren't by any means spotless.

Right with you there in the resentment of all the others' privileged positions though...
